History

When the move was made from the old Fairfield High School to the new Fairfield Senior High School in 1997, those who had worked on the high school musicals realized that there was a tremendous opportunity to begin doing musicals in the summer.  There were several factors that urged them in that direction, but the two most important factors were:

The first step was to have a town meeting of all those people who might be interested in such a project, both in the city and the school district.  The meeting was held in the winter of 1997-98 and the consensus was that a program was wanted and that it should be available to both students and adults in the community.

A meeting was then held with the school representative and it was decided that the Fairfield Summer Community Theatre (FSCT) should affiliate with an existing school group.  The Tempo Club seemed to be the logical choice.  After securing the school's approval for the use of the facility, the Fairfield City Council was approached with a request for a grant to provide the money needed to start the new theatre group.  Council approved a grant and FSCT was on it's way to the first show.

The founding members of the FSCT included James Davis, Patricia Davis, Dan Prior, Kathleen (Sully) Sullivan and Mindy Tischler (now Reed).  The members decided that they wanted to do a show that would use adults and children of all ages to meet the goal of involving as much of the community as possible.  After some discussion, Oliver was chosen as the first production.

Essentially,  the same staff that had been used for high school musicals was used for Oliver, since this was a group with a proven track record of working together to produce quality productions.  Oliver was performed in 1998 and met with tremendous success!  FSCT was off to a strong start!!
